HOW TO MAKE GOOD PICTURES (USING YOUR WASHING MACHINE)
MACIEK CHORĄŻY
16.07 -11.08.2016
Maciej Chorąży is a graduate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin. He creates installations, objects and ready-made graphics. Together with Agnieszka Klepacka founded the duo Brothers, engaged in designing theatrical costumes and scenery.
The artist sees his own environment and everyday life as a spectacle, even as a realization ready to show. His way of analysis of the immediate surroundings results in sculptures and objects that anyone can do alone at home, and probably already more or less consciously did. Ordinariness and the instability of the materials proves the distance and sense of humor. Artist is winking to the audience, mocking the classic structures of the art world.
The exhibition's title refers to the project of Hans Ulrich Obrist from1994 - the largest exhibition "in process" in the history of exhibit. DO IT is built with a set of manuals how to make pieces of art, wrote by most important artists (including Marina Abramovic, Tacita Dean, Erwin Wurm, Yoko Ono, the duo Gilbert & George and Olafur Elliason). The public can get involved in the implementation of the prepared guidelines by interpreting artistic guidance, thereby forming new art works.Works of Maciek Chorąży and DO IT project presented in the gallery refer explicitly to the popular catchword Do It Yourself - but can it be realized also in the art world?
