17.09 – 14.10.2016
Martyna Ścibior is an polish artist of the young generation, born in 1985. In 2007-2012 she studied at the Faculty of Media Art and Stage Design at Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, which she graduated with honors at the Leon Tarasiewicz's and Paweł Susid's workshops. Mainly she cultivates painting. Her works arise in a difficult and lengthy creative process, which involves covering the surface of the canvas with raster drawn with acrylics, pen or nail polish. At the FWD: gallery the artist performed a quite unusual installation, inspired by the annex to the Ściobior's diploma created in the workshop of Mirosław Bałka.This time, the gallery space was completely filled with seven thousand balloons. Opening of the new season in FWD: was an joyful and colorful event, but not without a bitter reflection. Over the next days the installation languished gradually, revealing an empty gallery space. The slow death of balloons emphasizes the depopulation of Pasaż Różowy, which once was full of life and entrepreneurship. In the bigger picture the work refers also to an extinct Św.Marcin street and its current post-capitalist condition. However, above all the work suppose to remind about the possibility of social revitalisation, fulfilling through art and places associated with it, such as FWD: gallery.
